Mirfield Petanque Club Singles Competition

The format is very simple, opponents are drawn at random and the 1st player to score 9 points wins, and the loser is out of the competition.

So after the end of each round the number of players left in the competition is halved.

32 members started the competition, and in the 1st round we lost some "Big hitters" including Shirley, Harry and Jim, proving the point that anyone can win in this format.

The games progressed to the semi finals which saw Kevin winning against Lucy and Gillian winning against Cheryl.

So, the final was Gillian v's Kevin.

30 members who had been eliminated from the competition sat in the grandstand cheering on the combatants.

Both players played exceptionally well, with some fabulous pointing and shooting, and in the end Kevin won the game and therefore the competition.

Well done Kevin.

The afternoon was a resounding success, and will now be played annually, probably in September.

Thanks to everyone who took part and made this new competition so much fun.
