West Yorkshire Cup Final

Today (Monday) was the long awaited cup final

Triples

Diane, Shirley and Lucy got off to slow start and found themselves trailing the game

But some excellent pointing and shooting resulted in an end of 6

This gave them the confidence to close out the game 13-9

Jim, Harry and Steve had a game that will give them nightmares

They lost the toss of the coin and the 1st end by 5,the 2nd end by 4 and the 3rd end by 4 to lose the game 0-13

But in their defence, they played the best 3 male players in the league

So, we went into the break 1-1

Doubles

Mark and Shirley got off to a slow start and were trailing 0-6

Leeds were on for 1 and we were lying 2nd with boules in hand

We tried to shoot out the Leeds boule but to no avail, only to find the what we thought was our boule was a Leeds boule, resulting in Leeds getting a 4 to take the score to 10-

Although we were in great positions to win ends, the Leeds players just shot and hit our boules and spoiled our game

Resulting in a 6-13 loss

Diane and Harry had an off day losing 4-13

Steve and Lucy played really well with a 5 at one end putting them in prime position, with some excellent shooting and pointing to lead the game 12-11

In a very tight end they were on for 1, enough to win the game, but Leeds with their last boule shot our boule out, resulting gaining a 2 which gave them the game.

This was a very unlucky loss

So we lost the match 1-4, but we could not complain as Leeds were a far better team on the day

On the upside, this was the first final Mirfield had contested which I'm sure we will turn this around next year

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who represented Mirfield petanque club this year, we had 14 different players who were willing to play when asked
