Mirfield v Wetherby WY League Cup Competition

On a glorious Monday morning we welcomed Wetherby for our cup match.

The cup matches are played in a different format to the league games.

Each team must contain 3 women and 3 men

The triples are played with a team of 3 women and a team of 3 men

The doubles contain 1 women and 1 man

Triples

Diane, Lucy and Shirley played some superb petanque to win their game 13-1 in less than 20 minutes, with some sublime pointing from Diane and Lucy and blistering shooting from Shirley

Harry, Steve and Mark had to play some fierce ends to edge out their game in a 13-9 victory , with Steve pointing some fantastic set up play for Harry to finish the game with a display of fine shooting.

So we went into the break 2-0 up

Doubles

Diane and Harry never really got into the game, losing the first end to a 5 and the last end to a 6, losing 2-13

Shirley and Mark were tied 3 all in a tight game, but then went and won an end with a 4, this gave them control and some good pointing from Mark and some excellent shooting from Shirley went on to win their game 13-3

Lucy and Steve carried their scintillating form from the triples to win a tight game 13-8

So Mirfield won the match 4-1

Well done everyone, it really was a great team effort.

We now play Huddersfield away in the semi final, date to be confirmed, and it be appreciated if club members could attend to cheer us on.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we play our last league games away at Wetherby, knowing a win will put us in 2nd place on the final season table.
