Yorkshire Petanque Pairs held at Mirfield on 21 September 2025.

The day before the pairs competition the weather was atrocious with heavy rain most of the day. Would the terrains be playable on the Sunday or would they be flooded ? Harry made an inspection of the terrains at 6.30am on the Sunday morning and found the conditions perfect for the games to go ahead.

The sun was shining as the nineteen teams arrived and the games started promptly at 10am. Each set of games had a maximum of one hour and timekeeper Harry eagerly blew his whistle to finish any games still playing. The hour per game system worked very well with the games keeping to time throughout the day.

After the five round of games there were two teams with the maximum of five wins. The winners, The Renegrades, putting Alan and Neill into second place. Third with 4 wins were Steak Frites closely followed by Burrdons also with 4 wins.

Also on 4 wins were Kevin and his playing partner Christine Appleyard. On 3 wins were Shirley and her playing partner Simon Cotton. In ninth place were the debut partnership of Mark and Phil. Well done to all the Mirfield players.

Thank you to Christine Campey, Carol Sykes and who provided refreshments throughout the day plus Ruth and Jackie. Thanks also Harry, JIm, Carol Greaves, Tony H, Michael and David Boyne who helped organised the event on the day. These people ensured that everything went smoothly.
