Month End Melee

Month End Melee - February 26th 2024

What is probably a record 40 members turned out for the February Month End Melee on Monday despite there being the usual cold wind blowing straight from the Urals across the Mirfield Petanque terrains.

With so many players all 8 pistes were in play for Round One. A triple and a pair match both ended in 13 - 1 scores so after this round 5 people were on +12 with no one else anywhere near.

Round 2 whittled this down to just two players in contention. Chris H on +23 and Sue S on +22. Unfortunately the cold proved too much for Sue who retreated to the clubhouse for a warming cuppa and despite Colin trying to convince her to play on she wasn't budging !

So onto round three. In this round relative newcomer Alan Hodgson probably playing in only his third week managed a third win to net +21. Well done Alan. Shirley kept him company in joint third with Jim managing to get +25 but out in first place flying up the outside was Lucy. Well done to you.

The places were as follows

In joint third with 3 wins and +21 were Shirley and Alan H both receiving 5 points.
In second place was Jim on 3 wins and +25 receiving 6 points.
And this months winner on 3 wins and +27 was Lucy who received 7 points.

The only other player to win all three matches was Irene but at +19 she was just outside the placings. Hard lines Irene.

After two Month End Melees Chris H and Lucy share top position on 10 points.
